Helix piercing is the process of making a hole on the upper cartilage of the ear known as helix. Helix piercing is done to wear jewellery on the ear. This piercing is done through a small hollow needle which is used to pierce through the helix and the jewellery which is worn is normally a stud or a small ring.

It is necessary to avoid the helix piercing with a piercing gun as it causes a shock to the ear which. It is ideal to block the ear canal with cotton so that dust or any particles cannot enter the ear during the piercing process.

Since the helix piercing is done on the helix which is a cartilage, so it requires a lot of pressure to be applied in order to make a hole.  Helix piercing is a critical process so it is very important that only trained professionals perform this task and the procedure should be carried out with a steady hand. The customers generally need to lie down on the bed while performing this piercing method in order to avoid any mishaps. After the piercing is done, the customers are able to place the jewellery as per their liking.

Proper care of the piercing:

Just like any other piercing, helix piercing should not be touched as much as possible. There is a lot of pain after the piercing is done so it is advisable to take painkillers if the person has got the piercing for the first time. Any contact with other materials or substances like sprays or make up should be avoided. Touching the piercing with dirty hands causes infection in the helix.

The jewellery which is placed at the time of the piercing should be worn until the healing is complete because it causes bleeding and pain which in turn increases the healing time of the piercing.

For cleaning the piercing area it is recommended to use warm water with an anti-sceptic liquid or clean it with a warm salt water solution.

Little swelling after the piercing is a normal sign because the lymphatic fluids tend to come out of the hole which is pale yellow. Secretion of such fluids from the pierced hole is not a sign of any infection and It can be cleaned very easily.

It is very important to avoid touching the piercing quite often as it causes infection and irritation to the piercing.
